Taking a look at the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 Series

Powered by BMW’s latest” generation ActiveHybrid technology the new BMW 3 Series hybrid is fitted with a 3.0 litre turbocharged  petrol engine, combined with an electric motor  and a stack of lithium-ion batteries that allow  it to accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in  5.3 seconds.

Despite its sports car like levels of sprint  performance, the ActiveHybrid 3 is said to use  approximately 5.9 litres of unleaded for every 100km travelled in a combined cycle.

If you’re wondering how it works, the  225kW six-cylinder engine is the same unit fitted to the BMW 335i.  According to BMW all the hybrid-related  powertrain and energy management components were developed specifically for the BMW ActiveHybrid 3.

The result is a fully integrated system winch  of BMW ActiveHybrid  technology and the company as  that all the new hybrid components are designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle.

ActiveHybrid 3 is the second hybrid model  from BMW after the launch of its ActiveHybrid 5.  Its 335i sourced petrol engine develops  maximum power, of 225kW at 5800rpm and  maximum torque output1200rpm and 5000rpm.

An eight speed automatic gearbox, which is fitted as standard, offers a wide gear range with close ratio spacing. For sportier drivers, the gearbox features direct downshift capability and exceptionally  short shifts.
